Utilizamos a expressão "to be used to" para falar sobre coisas que temos o hábito de fazer ou que estamos acostumados(as) a fazer e a expressão "got used to" para falar de coisas que nos acostumamos a fazer.
Veja o seguinte exemplo:
I was afraid of swimming in the ocean because I was only used to swimming in a pool. I wasn't used to swimming in the ocean. |
Note que o to na expressão to be used to é uma preposição, e como já aprendemos, adicionamos o -ing ao verbo que segue uma preposição. Assim como aconteceu na primeira sentença, o verbo swim leva -ing pois vem depois da preposição of.
Outros exemplos:
After he started his new job, he had almost no time to exercise in the evening, so he got used to exercising in the morning. |
It's difficult for Ethan to wake up early, but with the help of his friend, he is getting used to exercising in the morning. |
He was used to exercising in the morning when he was a kid. Unfortunately, he doesn't do that anymore. |
He is used to exercising in the morning. He wakes up at 5 am, has breakfast and goes out for his daily jog. |
He will be used to exercising in the morning by next year. He just needs time to adjust. |
He will get used to exercising in the morning if he tries to do it consistently for, at least, two weeks. |
He was getting used to exercising in the morning before he had to start working in the evening. |
Também podemos usar estas expressões seguidas de substantivos.
Exemplos:
She is used to the noise. |
They got used to my company. |
