Grammar
A forma é a seguinte: [was/were + present continuous]
Ou seja, conjugamos o verbo to be no passado:
to be | |
---|---|
I | was |
You | were |
He | was |
She | was |
It | was |
We | were |
You | were |
They | were |
E ao próximo verbo, adicionamos -ING.
Veja alguns exemplos:
- They were exercising when she arrived.
- Eles estavam se exercitando quando ela chegou.
- Were they exercising when she arrived?
- Eles estavam se exercitando quando ela chegou?
- They were not exercising when she arrived.
1. Ação Interrompida no Passado
- I was going home when he called.
- When it started to rain, she was getting ready to leave.
- While we were packing our bags, our grandparents arrived.
- Enquanto estávamos fazendo as malas, os nossos avós chegaram.
- What were you doing when the concert started?
- I was watching a movie, so I didn't see you come in.
- You were not studying when I came into your room.
- While she was shopping last night, we organized a surprise party for her.
- My father was waiting for us when the game ended.
- While I was writing the email, I lost my internet connection.
- Enquanto eu estava escrevendo o email, eu perdi a minha conexão com a internet.
1. Fill the blanks with the past continuous:
- When she called us we _______ (correct) our exercises.
- The children _______ (cry) 5 minutes ago.
- I _______ (study) Geography when you called me.
- Lucy _______ (sing) in the garden.
- Those girls _______ (look) for you.
- My friends and I _______ (watch) TV in my bedroom.
- That man _______ (build) a doghouse.
2. Change the sentences from the simple past to the past continuous tense:
- She walked to school.
- They played chess last night.
- It rained a lot.
- We wrote love poems.
- I helped my mother with lunch.
- The teacher explained the lesson to the students.
