Grammar

Hoje aprenderemos a utilizar o modal "Must", utilizaremos ele para dar duas ideias, a primeira é quando queremos expressar uma dedução lógica, algo que temos praticamente certeza de que é verdade.
Exemplo:
  • You are not wearing a coat, you must be freezing!
    • Você não está usando um casaco, você deve estar congelando!
  • You must be very happy since you won the prize.
    • Você deve estar muito feliz já que você ganhou o prêmio.
  • You must love her a lot.
    • Você deve ama-la muito.
O segundo caso que utilizaremos o "Must" é quando queremos expressar um dever, algo que a pessoa deve fazer, ele também dá uma conotação de urgência.
O negativo é "Must not" forma contraída é "Mustn't"
  • You must go now!
    • Você tem que ir agora!
  • She must study more or else she will fail the test.
    • Ela tem que estudar mais ou ela não passara no teste.
  • You mustn't eat so much sugar.
    • Você não deve comer tanto açucar.

  1. Joe, a 15 year old, broke into his neighbor’s house, burgled the house, locked the eighty-year-old woman in her bathroom and escaped in her car. At the trial, the defense pleaded not guilty to the charges with the reason of temporary insanity caused by Joe watching too much TV. He watched more than six hours a day, loved crime programs and had watched a film, which contained scenes similar to the crime he had committed. Was Joe GUILTY or NOT GUILTY of burglary and false imprisonment?
  2. Max went to a second-hand car dealer named Harry and told him that he only wanted a car that had air conditioning. Harry said OK and pointed out a car. Max took the car for a test drive and then bought it without checking to see if it had air conditioning. When he got the car home, he discovered that the knob marked ‘air’ was ventilation only. Max sued Harry for a fraud and demanded compensation.
