Adverbs of Manner
Adverbs of manner, ou advérbios de modo, são palavras que explicam como uma ação acontece.
Alguém pode ler um livro de vários modos.
- Por exemplo:
She reads books quickly. (quickly = rapidamente) |
They read books hurriedly. (hurriedly = apressadamente) |
Note que advérbios de modo em português frequentemente terminam em -mente, enquanto em inglês geralmente eles terminam em -ly.

- She politely declined the invitation to go to the party.
- Ela educadamente recusou o convite para ir à festa.
- I don't know why, but she gets upset very easily.
- Não sei por que, mas ela fica chateada muito facilmente.
- They don't like people who rudely bump into others when they are on the bus.
- Eles não gostam de pessoas que grosseiramente esbarram nas outras quando estão no ônibus.
- If you exercise correctly you will not have any injuries.
- Se você se exercitar corretamente, não terá nenhuma lesão.
- I hope you get home safely.
- Espero que você chegue em casa com segurança.
- She needs to fold the towels neatly and put them in the wardrobe.
- Ela precisa dobrar as toalhas com cuidado e colocá-las no guarda-roupas.
- He wants to calmly talk about the project and decide what the next step will be.
- Ele quer conversar calmamente sobre o projeto e decidir qual será o próximo passo.
Porém, alguns deles não seguem o padrão descrito acima.

- She's working hard to provide for her children.

- Você está jogando futebol bem. Com que frequência tem treinado?
- Change your clothes fast so we can go to the event.
- Troque de roupa rápido para podermos ir ao evento.
- I need to go straight to a restaurant when we get there. I'm starving!
- Preciso ir direto a um restaurante quando chegarmos lá. Estou faminta.

1. Substitua as palavras em negrito pelos pronomes da tabela abaixo:

2. Se você fosse construir uma casa, quais cômodos você gostaria que ela tivesse? Tente descrever a casa/apartamento dos seus sonhos.
3. Substitua o texto escrito na primeira pessoa I para a terceira pessoa he,she. Não esqueça de fazer as alterações nos pronomes possessivos também:
- I get up at six o'clock every day and I open the windows. I have breakfast with my family. I drink juice and coffee for breakfast. I like to eat bread and cheese for breakfast, too. At eight o'clock I go to school by bus. I don't have a car yet, but I want to buy one. At school, I speak English with my teacher and Portuguese with my friends.
- At two p.m. I play tennis at the club with my brother and sister. After this, I drink some water and I take my friends to the movies. Then I smoke a cigarette and I go visit my cousin. I like to eat at the restaurant with my cousin. I don't like to cook. I don't know how to cook.
- In the evening, I read the newspaper and I write some letters to my relatives. I take the letters to the post office downtown and I buy some books for my children.
- At night, I stay at home and I help my children with their homework. I study English and I go to bed at eleven o'clock. I usually sleep six to eight hours.
