Estes verbos são seguidos de "to". Seja com um objeto entre o verbo e o "to" ou sem.
Examples:
verb + to
They expected to win. I asked to go home. He only meant to help. We would like to stay a bit longer.
verb + object + to
They expected me to win. I asked her to go home. He only meant for us to help. We would like you to stay a bit longer.

- 2. Use the expression in parentheses to reply to the following situations. You might be asked to write the answers down or just say them out-loud.
- a. ( want to ) - You just got home. You feel tired. You think that taking a shower is a good idea.
- Answer: I want to take a shower.
- b. ( wants me to ) - Your sister is planning a party. She has a lot of things to do and is asking for your help.
- c. ( is begging to ) - A mother and a little girl are walking past a carnival. The little girl is doing all she can to convince her mother to go inside.
- d. ( begged her to ) - You are planning a trip to Europe, but you would love to have company. So, you tried to convince your best friend to go with you.
- e. ( helps to ) - Sometimes, listening to music is a good way of relaxing after a stressful day. So we say that music...
- f. ( helped us to ) - Our parents gave us all the support we needed to grow and become mature people.
- g. ( would prefer to ) - They are asking me to go to the mall, but I want to go home.
- h. ( would prefer them to ) - Your friends came to visit you, but now they have to go. Yet, you wish they could stay.
- a. ( want to ) - You just got home. You feel tired. You think that taking a shower is a good idea.
- 3. Answer the following email. Give some suggestions using the expressions below.
Hey there, I'm writing to ask for your advice on a problem I have at the moment. As you might already know, my boss is putting a lot of pressure on me to finish the project I am working on in two weeks. But, I know I need at least another week to do it well. I am afraid if I ask for more time he might think I am not doing a good job. Of course, he should realize that I am doing all this work alone when usually a team of three handle this kind of project. What do you think I should do?
